At Just Barking, we believe your dog deserves the highest standards of care. That’s why we’re proud members of the British Isles Grooming Association (BIGA), and committed to following the UK Government’s new Best Practice Guidance for professional pet groomers.
What is Best Practice?
Created in partnership with BIGA, the Pet Industry Federation, the Canine and Feline Sector Group (CFSG), and veterinary bodies, the guidance sets out clear standards to make grooming safer, kinder, and more professional across England and Wales. The voluntary code covers everything from:
-
Understanding each dog’s individual needs and behaviour
-
Communicating with owners
-
The grooming process and salon environment
-
Equipment, emergencies, and even environmental impact
-
Ongoing training and compliance with legislation
Why it matters for you and your dog
For owners, it’s peace of mind. You know your groomer isn’t just working from instinct or habit — but following a government-endorsed blueprint for quality and safety. For your dog, it means their wellbeing, comfort, and health are always at the centre of what we do.
Raising the bar
The Best Practice Guidance, released in June 2025, is the first government-backed framework for professional grooming in the UK. We think that’s something to celebrate — because it raises standards across the industry and gives your dog the care they deserve.
